Overview

The kingdom of Denmark is the southernmost of the Scandinavian countries and occupies the Jutland Peninsula in north central Europe and the islands of Sjaelland, Funen, Lolland and Falster. It covers just over 43,000 sq. kms, including 480 small islands. The most densely populated area is the capital city of Copenhagen.

The climate is temperate, modified by marine influences and the Gulf Stream. Winters are cold and overcast and summers warm to mild and sunny. Rainfall decreases west to east. Strong winds are not uncommon. Temperatures in Copenhagen vary between 1°C in January and 17°C in August.
