The volcanic island of Dominica is located in the Windward group of the West Indies. It covers 750 sq. kms. A mountainous ridge forms the spine of the island from which several rivers flow to the indented coastline. "Boiling Lake" is situated in the south. The rich soil supports dense tropical vegetation which covers almost half the island.

The climate is tropical with warm temperatures and high humidity. The wet season is June to October and hurricanes are frequent. Temperatures range from 25°C to 32°C.
