Overview

Germany is located in central Europe and covers 360,000 sq. kms. The land area divides into four main regions: the fertile North German Plain, the Mid-German Highlands, the South German Uplands and the Bavarian Alps and Plateau. The north east consists of farms and forest and the central uplands support vineyards. The Bavarian Alps have Germany's highest peak.

The climate is mainly temperate with prevailing west winds. Eastern and southern winters are colder with clear weather and high snowfall. Summer temperatures reach 20°C but minus temperatures are common in January.
