North Korea occupies the Northen part of the Korean Peninsula with South Korea to the southern border, China to the north and Russia to the north-east and totals 120,000 sq. kms. An extremely mountainous country with populated areas being in coastal plains and deep valleys.

Cold dry winters and mild wetter summers are the standard. North Korea experiences a combination of continental climate and an oceanic climate, but most of the country experiences a humid continental climate.
